Why would anyone book a flight with Travelocity instead of direct with the airline? - Travelocity Customer Service


I booked a total of 4 itineraries with Travelocity for flights to Europe to coincide with a Mediterranean cruise. The first leg was from DFW to Madrid which routed me thru Chicago where I flew Iberia to Madrid. From Madrid we booked a new itinerary with Iberia to Barcelona. The Iberia flight from Chicago took off one hour late cause us to miss the connection in Madrid. Iberia refused to re-book us on a later flight at the same price or even credit it us with the price we had already paid, so we had to buy brand new tickets at additional cost of over $500. The reason they gave us was that the Travelocity ticket was a "group" fare so low they had no choice. I suspect that if I had bought the same ticket directly from Iberia they would have honored it since it was their fault we missed the connection.

Since we got back I called Travelocity customer service and was told that they would review whether they could give me a refund for the tickets I could not use and get back to me via e-mail. They never did, so I e-mailed customer service and after 4 days they replied that I would have to call customer service due to "privacy" issues. I feel they have me in a never ending loop.

In view of the above I have decided that from now on I will book flights directly with the airlines after doing research so they will feel responsibility to treat me as a customer, instead of a third party.
