Online Travel Booking - travel package

While on vacation in Italy on March 19, 2015, I got an email from Travelocity telling me to call them re: my return flight home scheduled with Lufthansa which was scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2015. I called them back and spoke with them for over three hours (until 1:30 in the morning Italy time). It seems Lufthansa and the airlines out of Italy were on strike and they cancelled my flight from Pisa to Munich. They told me there was no way they could book me on another flight because of so-called %u201Crestrictions.%u201D They told me they could get my out on a flight with Lufthansa either Monday or Tuesday (3 or 4 days later), which is completely unacceptable. I have a daughter that needed to go to school and my husband and I needed to get back to work. The %u201CONLY%u201D other option was get a refund and rebook on another airline (what??????). After going back and forth for hours, I finally took their advice and rebooked with another airline. They charged me $4561.77 for three of us to get a new flight home. They said we would be reimbursed $1322.70 for the previous booked flight difference. So I now paid $3239.07 more toward an already very expensive trip!!! I couldn%u2019t believe my ears, but I was scared. I was basically stuck in Europe with no way of getting home. Travelocity never advised me that something like this could happen. I would have never booked such a trip with them. That is why I even originally purchased the insurance through Travelocity for $258. They call it travel protection. They told me that insurance was only if I needed to cancel for some reason. Not if an airline went on strike. Really??? I was told today that I will not get reimbursed. I spoke with three different managers at the corporate office three different times and have spent countless of hours on the phone. I feel like I was completely taken advantage of and I believe Travelocity needs be accountable for this.
